What started as a small side hobby in a Lakewood home 12 years ago has grown into one of the area’s most beloved custom apparel shops. Black Label Apparel, founded by Lakewood resident Patrick Kellett, began with a simple idea: while Cleveland gear was everywhere, there wasn’t much out there that spoke directly to Lakewood pride. Patrick decided to change that.
In the early days, Black Label was truly a one-person operation. He began by designing Lakewood-specific t-shirts and swag, outsourcing the printing while testing the waters at local events. His first appearance, at the Screw Factory Holiday Market, was a major success with his entire stock selling out. The overwhelming response confirmed what he already suspected: Lakewood residents were eager to wear their community spirit.
Encouraged by that success, Patrick invested in his own screen-printing press and began producing his designs in-house. What started as a convenient step quickly evolved into a passion. He immersed himself in the craft, even taking a weeklong screen-printing course in Chicago to refine his technique and bring professional polish to his work.
By 2019, Black Label Apparel had outgrown its early hobby phase. The business began partnering with Lakewood City Schools, designing and producing spirit wear for Emerson Elementary and later creating fresh, fun designs for schools across the district. Patrick’s modern take on PTA swag–stylish, high-quality, and infused with personality–made Black Label a community favorite.

Today, Black Label Apparel’s reach extends well beyond Lakewood. The shop produces apparel for communities across Greater Cleveland (and beyond) and has collaborated with major corporations such as Ernst & Young and American Greetings. Every project–whether it’s for a school, company, or community group–is handled with the same attention to creativity, quality, and connection.
Though Black Label previously operated out of a studio located in Cleveland, the business has recently come full circle–returning home to Lakewood in a larger space. Staying rooted in the city that first embraced the brand is central to Patrick’s vision.
Beyond custom apparel, Black Label now offers screen-printing workshops, perfect for corporate team-building events or community groups and teams looking for a hands-on creative experience. These sessions, designed for 10 to 35 participants, walk attendees through the screen-printing process from start to finish—and everyone leaves with their own custom-made swag. Guests can print on T-shirts, hoodies, totes, and more, all while enjoying a relaxed, social atmosphere (you can even bring your own food and drinks).
Black Label continues to expand its product line—offering not only apparel but also items like ceramic mugs—and welcomes new bulk printing projects of all kinds. Whether you’re looking for help designing a one-of-a-kind piece or simply need a high-quality print partner, the team is ready to bring your vision to life.
Everything at Black Label Apparel operates by appointment only, ensuring each client gets the personal attention their project deserves. To learn more, schedule a workshop, or start a custom order, visit discoverblacklabel.com or email mailto:lwblacklabel@gmail.com.
