A new café is brewing something special inside Lakewood’s historic Screw Factory. Flour & Bean, located at 13000 Athens Avenue on the first floor at the front of the building’s east side, is more than just a place to grab coffee, it’s a thoughtfully designed space rooted in creativity, community, and fresh, made-from-scratch food.
Owned by chef Edward Meyers and local artist Regina Seballos, Flour & Bean reflects the duo’s shared passion for both culinary craft and the arts. After running a previous business and later a food truck, the pair were ready to put down roots and create something more permanent. When the opportunity arose to open a café inside the Screw Factory, it felt like the perfect fit.
At the heart of Flour & Bean is a menu that keeps things fresh in every sense of the word. Guests can expect a rotating selection of house-made soups, sandwiches, salads, and pastries, alongside coffee, tea, and other beverages. Nothing is static, the menu evolves regularly based on seasonal ingredients and the chef’s inspiration. The bakery program leans into French pastry traditions, offering a European café experience that pairs beautifully with a morning coffee or afternoon break. The name “Flour & Bean” itself is a nod to the café’s two central pillars: fresh-baked goods and expertly crafted coffee.
Step inside, and you’ll find a space that feels open, airy, and inviting. With ample seating, free Wi-Fi, and even board games to play, it’s designed to accommodate everything from solo work sessions to casual meetups. It’s also family-friendly, making it an easy stop for visitors of all ages.
But what truly sets Flour & Bean apart is its vision as a community hub. The café is already becoming a gathering place for clubs and craft nights, and the owners are eager to welcome more groups into the space. Surrounded by the vibrant artist community within the Screw Factory, Meyers and Seballos are embracing their location by turning their walls into a platform for local creatives. Their goal is to display, promote, and sell artwork (commission-free) giving artists a meaningful opportunity to connect with the public.
Visitors are encouraged to make an afternoon of it: stop in for a coffee and a bite, then explore the rest of the building, which houses a wide range of artist studios and small businesses. Flour & Bean is open Tuesday through Sunday from 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM and is closed on Mondays.
